Thanks in advance. You might try De Lorme mapping. They publish a variety of CD-ROM based maps, ranging from those for consumer use to highly featured professional uses. I use their 'Map Expert" program in my Search and Rescue activities. Contact them at (207) 865-1234. I spent the last week playing with DeLorme for a project I was putting together for my department. In general, I thought it was a good product with some limitations. It should be noted; however, that DeLorme is just a program to look at/print maps. It does not have any underlying database (GIS) capability. Good points were: - relatively complete maps with good detail even for all the gravel roads in our teritory. - can cut and paste to other graphics programs - can print directly Downside was: - if your territory is growing, the maps will not have everything you need. Based on development in my area, I am guessing that the maps were ~3 years out of date. - when cutting a pasting to other drawing or Windows apps, the image is purely bitmap (raster). This can cause scaling problems and increase the difficulty in editing. I did not check how often they update their maps or what their update policy was. Brandon Chief, Hamel Vol. Fire Dept. -- H. Trimble makes what is probably the best mapping/AVL system, IMO (i don't work for them, just have seen all of the major systems). ESRI also has a nice standalone GIS system. oh yeah, SCC also has a CAD/GIS system. i don't work for any of these companies, but i did have a chance to see them all at this year's APCO in pittsburg. -- Mark L. It essentially allows one to make their own topo map. Also allows you to put geo-position data on it with the click of a mouse. Found it inside OUTSIDE magazine. It has data on roads,rivers,contours,trails,4wdr roads, etc. Only $60!! And no I don't work for them. Mike K. mkosciel@lanl.gov (Mike Koscielniak) --------------------------
