SAResources V.1 Description Sept. 6/96 --------------------------------------------------------------- SAResources is a software package designed for use by the training officer of a British Columbia Provincial Emergency Program Search And Rescue team. The program maintains databases for training events, training attendance, team member records, and a radio inventory record. It can generate the various forms used by the PEP as well as various other forms and records for use in the general day-to-day management of a SAR team. As the author of the program has also written the SARTracker mapping program which includes a radio log, this package includes a database for inventory of the team's radios and communications equipment. That database is designed to be accessed by SARtracker V.2. The program generates the following forms: PEP Forms --------- Training Task number application form -single training event Training Task number application form -for multiple events Task Registration form (Sign-in list) for all members -hard copy and ASCII text file Blank Task Registration form Training Task Report form Other Forms ----------- Team Training Attendance Member Training Attendance Member Resource File - hard copy and ASCII text file Member Resource Database Table Training Event Database Table Callout Phone List Mailing Labels Radio Equipment Inventory Table Member Resources Database ------------------------ The program allows for the maintenance of records for each team member, as well as assigning an ID number to each member - which in future will be used to register team members as they sign-in at a major search. The Member Resources Database has over 125 fields to record vital information such as phone numbers and mailing information, next-of-kin information and medical information. The database also tracks PEP certificate courses as well as other important skills and a list of member's personal equipment. Information in this database is used to generate the various forms, such as sign-in and callout lists. It can in future be used during a task registration to provide a search manager with a list of the skills available from their members. View the document MEMRES.TXT to view a list of the database fields and guidlines for the information entered in them. Training Events Database ----------------------- The training event database is used to generate the task number application forms prior to training sessions, tracks attendance at training and training events, and generates the report after a training session. Installing the Program ---------------------- 1. Create the directory: C:\SAR\DB And unzip the contents of the file SARRES.ZIP into it. 2. Find the file SETUP.EXE in the above directory and run it. The Setup proceedure will install the software and allow you to make entries for your team. You will be asked to input PEP zone and municipality information and an abreviation for your team's name. That abreviation is used to name the Member Database file and becomes part of the ID number for each member. This abreviation needs to be unique. Suggestions appear in the combo box for each team in the province. In the future, as more sofware utilities for Search And Rescue come into use, the information in the Member Resource database file may be used during registration and tracking member skills resources at a large search where many teams may be brought together. The Setup program contains a list of suggested abreviations for each team in British Columbia. 3. Install the program TRAINRPT.EXE in the Windows Program manager or run it directly from the File manager. That concludes the program installation. TEAM LOGO When you run the program, you will notice that the logo for Lions Bay Search And Rescue appears on the main menu screen. If you would like your team's crest to appear on the screen, save a bitmap of it as LOGO.BMP in the same directory ( C:\SAR\DB ) with the program files. If you have a previous version of the program, you will find that the new version of the databases contain new fiends. The setup routine will have updated your old version of the Member Resource database to include the new fields. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - For information or comments, contact the author at: bob.manson@deepcove.bc.ca
